THE RAPUNZEL PROJECT RECEIVES A MAJOR GIFT
Mr. Arnold Hampel and his late wife, professor Denise Kennedy, have made a $20,000 gift to The Rapunzel Project!
Here is Arn’s incredibly touching testimony to his dear Denise — and how much saving her hair meant to him.
Professor Denise Kennedy (Arizona State University; Mayo Clinic), a remarkably accomplished woman, earned the rank of Assistant Professor at the College of Medicine Mayo Clinic, a rare achievement for a non-MD. Denise suffered from endometrial cancer; her earthly body went to heaven on January 10, 2023. She maintained a positive attitude during her five-year treatment of surgery, radiation and chemo. The Rapunzel Project’s help with cold-capping contributed immensely to her positive attitude — she was able to keep her hair!
I, Arn, her husband and sole caretaker at home during the entire period, witnessed her gratitude for keeping her hair. It turned white, as you can see in this picture taken nine months before she died. She had her hairdresser add streaks of black and it was beautiful. Despite suffering constant pain and bodily misery, she went toward inevitable death with a glow and a smile. She came into my life as an angel from heaven, was an angel throughout and continues as an angel at my side forever.
